Lakefront Family Dentistry Celebrates Oral Health Month

Lakefront Family Dentistry is celebrating Oral Health Month during June. Oral Health Month was created by the American Dental Association in partnership with Colgate to remind families that establishing healthy habits such as brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist are some of the keys to health and happiness.
Lakefront Family Dentistry—a luxury dental practice located in Lake Elsinore, CA—offers high-quality dental care for the entire family, including children, teens, and adults. “As our name says, Lakefront Family Dentistry is first and foremost a family dentist,” said Dr. Derek Hauser. “When families in Riverside County are seeking a kid’s dentist who can also serve the needs of the adult members of the family, our office can help. After all, choosing a dental practice that can serve all members of the family makes life easier.”
Experts at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association recommend that children visit the dentist once their first tooth erupts or by age one.
At a child’s first visit to the dentist, Dr. Phillipe and Dr. Hauser will provide parents with information on issues such as teething, baby bottles and tooth decay, and how finger-sucking and pacifiers affect teeth. This visit is also an opportunity to provide a gentle cleaning and help a child get accustomed to visiting the dentist.
Visiting the dentist as a toddler is critical because it provides Dr. Phillipe and Dr. Hauser with an opportunity to monitor and evaluate the development of a child’s teeth, including any oral issues that may be developing. A frenectomy for babies is offered using the Solea Laser technology that requires no anesthesia, and the procedure takes just 30 to 60 seconds.
“A common misconception is that baby teeth aren’t important because they will eventually fall out,” said Dr. Phillipe. “However, early loss of baby teeth can cause long-term problems such as causing permanent teeth to erupt improperly. Children may also have problems with speaking and chewing if they lose baby teeth prematurely.”
As children get older, Lakefront Family Dentistry can provide a variety of services designed to help protect children’s teeth, including sealants and fluoride treatments. The office can also perform frenectomies using the Solea Laser.
Sealants help protect permanent molars and back teeth—areas that are hard to reach and prone to tooth decay. “The best kids’s dentists know that teeth won’t always get brushed properly,” said Dr. Hauser. “Applying sealants is a great way to help protect these important teeth.”
During each visit, the staff at Lakefront Family Dentistry will review proper brushing and flossing techniques and highlight any problem areas. “Teaching proper oral health habits needs to start early,” says Dr. Hauser. “However, children under the age of 6 need parents to brush their teeth or must be closely supervised.”
Lakefront Family Dentistry has gone above and beyond to create a stress-free environment for patients of all ages. One perk that helps anxious patients is Stella—the office’s trained therapy dog. Nilla is an adorable Mini-Golden Doodle currently in training at the private dental practice right now as well.“ As a family dentist, our staff know that patients of all ages have anxiety associated with visiting the dentist. Stella helps our most nervous patients—whether they are 9 or 99,” said Dr. Hauser.
